FAQ - Reception

Reception

I would like to receive NBC, CBS, FOX and WB in Europe. Is this possible?

No, sadly there is no possibility to receive the named channels over satellite in Europe. The satellites on which these channels are being broadcasted are in Europe below the horizon.

Also it isn't possible to receive original domestic american news channels (except Fox News in some pay-tv packages) - CNN and CNBC transmit a special produced programme for Europe, the portion of american programmes has been reduced in the last years.

News and information programmes are available on the public funded international channel Voice of America - the channel is being transmitted for example on Hotbird 13° east (KU-Band) and on various satellites in C-Band. Some church channels also broadcast their programmes for Europe on Hotbird.

It is possible to watch more or less current american tv series and movies with a subscription from BSykB (Great Britain). Since BSkyB offers the subscription only to people living in UK and Ireland people from other countries need to use the services of resellers. Most european pay-tv providers give the viewer the possibility to watch movies and series with original soundtrack.

Some arabic channels also broadcast more or less current american movies or tv series, most time with original soundtrack and with arabic subtitels. These channels can be received over Arabsat 26° east (C- and KU-Band) and Nilesat 7° west (KU-Band). If you want to receive these channels you need in Germany and Austria a minimum dish size of around 100cm or more depending on your location. For your country please consult the footprints provided by the satellite operators.

Unencrypted arabic channels:

MBC 2:
broadcasts 24 hours per day movies with english soundtrack

MBC 4:
broadcasts american series (e.g. Buffy, 24, ...) and CBS/ABC news

one TV:
movies and tv series

More english dubbed programmes are running from time to time for example on Bahrain 55, Saudi TV 2 and MBC 3.

arabische Sender

Another hint: every evening on weekdays and the whole weekend CNBC-e (on Eurasiasat 1, 42° east) broadcasts english dubbed movies with turkish subtitles.

Sometimes it is possible to receive unencrypted feeds with sport programmes or news. You will find more information about this topic on specialized websites or boards.
